Hi everyone! And welcome to our 7th edition of local spins from Bud’s Records And Kool Things. In this edition I’ll be talking about our $20 New Sealed Record Sale coming up September 21st and our biggest show we played with Doctor Mom.

So let’s get started – it was May 2018 and I was living in Ottawa when Bud messaged me to let me know that one of our musical idols Lydia Lunch was coming to play a show in Ottawa. We bought tickets to go see her play with her band Retrovirus. Lydia Lunch has been a part of the music scene since the 70s in New York City and is well established in the punk rock community and art scene. If you haven’t, go check out her music or spoken words.

So about a week before that show, Bud messaged to notify me that one of the opening acts for the Lydia Lunch show had pulled out and Bud was in contact with the promoter and managed to get Doctor Mom (our band) in as an opening act! The date was set, Saturday May 12th at the Mavericks bar in downtown Ottawa. The night of the show when we first arrived and walked into the venue, Lydia Lunch was right there in person. It was a really cool feeling to be in front of one of our idols but also to be opening up for her.

We were the second band to go on that night and we rocked the house! I remember we all felt very satisfied with our performance that night. When Lydia Lunch went on, it was amazing to hear the songs live and being blasted at us. When she was on stage she was drinking a glass of wine and in the middle of the show she passed me the glass and invited me to drink out of it and then she proceeded to finish off the drink when I handed it back to her. It was quite the experience to share a glass of wine with one of my idols!

Okay! Mark your calendar, Saturday September 21st as we’ll be having our $20 New Sealed Records Sale (Limited 2 per person) come see what the hype is we are the only record store in Canada with this sale! see you then! Jason
