Hi everyone! Welcome to our 8th edition of Local Spins from Bud’s Records And Kool Things. In this edition, I’ll be talking about the tragic day we all lost Bud O’Byrne.
It was late April 13th 2020 when I received a message from Bud letting me know he would be coming to Ottawa the next day to drop off some records to a few people, including myself. Bud Messaged me the next day April 14th letting me know he actually wasn’t feeling great and was wondering if he could leave all of the purchases at my house and if I could drop a few off and have a few picked up at my place. Without hesitation I agreed.
When Bud showed up we chatted for around 10 minutes while trying to keep a social distance. Keep in mind this was the beginning of Covid and we were being cautious. Bud handed me a stack of records and headed back home. Bud was extremely excited when I saw him, he had just picked up a great collection from someone in Ottawa. The next day April 15th I was receiving messages from Bud showing me some of the great albums he picked up. Out of them was one Beatles Album Twist and Shout on translucent color a super rare find maybe only 4 in existence. (more to come on that in future edition) .
On April 16th I went to work at the Brockville hospital. while I was at work I saw that Bud had posted a draw for a Rob Zombie box set. I asked for a number I normally wouldn’t ask for #13 but considering it was Rob Zombie I thought it was fitting. Bud added my spot! Later that day while commuting back home with a few co workers I received a devastating text messaged from Bud’s wife Angie she said I’m sorry to have to tell you this but Bud passed away this morning he loved you like a brother… that was probably one of the hardest days of my life. I can’t imagine what the family went through. I’ll be sharing more on this in the next edition and if everything works out I’ll be sharing some extremely big news! Jason
