On December 31st, SD&G was alive with New Year’s Eve event. I chose to attend Centre Charles-Émile Claude’s (CCÉC) first New Year’s Eve party. The evening started with a Catch the Ace draw, benefiting three local organisations – CCÉC to fund an activity for seniors with neurocognitive disorders, ACFO SDG youth projects, and the Club Richelieu portion going towards pediatric services at the Cornwall Community Hospital. The lucky winner of last night’s draw, Mr. Albert Thompson, ended the year $3512.00 richer. Further draws will take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. until the Ace of Spade is revealed. $10 tickets can be purchased at Canadian Tire, Farm Boy, CCÉC, Caisse Desjardins, and Salon Phase II for a chance to win a weekly prize or the jackpot.

The western-themed evening proceeded with a potluck supper of delicious salads, appetizers, warm comfort foods, and sweets followed by a few “chansons à répondre” to get into the festive spirit. The evening continued with social and line dancing led by Claire Lemieux and interspersed with entertaining games.
At the stroke of 8:30 p.m., (advanced from the scheduled 10 p.m. due to the snowstorm) we toasted the new year with bubbly champagne. Afterwards, the more avid dancers stayed for a while longer before calling it a night. It was a fun evening of laughter with friends and new acquaintances.
