Hi gang! Welcome to another edition of Eats & Deets. I don’t look at my food writing as food criticism per se, I just like to write about food. We all eat it, we all need it to survive, but food can be about so much more then that.
I love Harv’s Diner. Where I’m from in Southern Ontario, a meat choice on a basic breakfast is never fried bologna. It’s bacon, ham or sausage. The potatoes served are however the restaurant makes them. At Harv’s, I get a choice. Actually, I get a lot of choices. My regular order is:

- Two eggs over easy
- Brown toast
- Fried bologna
- Half and half – half grilled potatoes with onions, and half homemade baked beans.
I’ve had the same order probably thirty times the last four years. This time I wanted something different. I love diner Eggs Benedict, ideally with the hollandaise sauce from a package. Bright yellow and full of butter, this is Flavourtown for me. I ordered it with the half and half, and was thrilled with my breakfast. Everything was fresh, the potatoes were delicious, the hollandaise was exactly what I wanted, and sorry I ruined the photo with ketchup on my potatoes. I’m still a kid at heart. A fantastic breakfast from a place that is so reliable – I have never had a bad meal from them. 8.7/10.
Next – City Limits Bar & Grill. I used to live near them, and had been in a couple of times for the chicken souvlaki, a dish I get a hankering for quite often. I knew I wanted the platter, but you know what? They serve their pizza with the cheese on top, and well, I am the Pizza Freak…so I got a medium pepperoni as well. Suddenly I was more interested in the pizza.
If I were to describe Cornwall Pizza to someone that doesn’t know what it is, I’d say it’s in the Greek style, with the cheese on top first, the toppings underneath, and a decent crust to hold the weighty slices together. City Limits’ version checks all those boxes, but where they shine is their pizza sauce. Homemade, thick and rich, hints or basil, oregano and garlic, it tied the whole pizza together. The crust didn’t have a big outside ridge, so the sauce, toppings and cheese went almost to the edge. At the end of the slice i was left with a nice chewy and crunchy crust with sauce left over on it. Spectacular. The souvlaki played second fiddle in my meal. I loved it, the Greek potatoes were soft and tasty, and the dressing on the salad was . A great job all around, and I give the meal an 8.5/10.
