Christmas arrived a little early at the historic Aultsville train site this month. Under bright winter sunshine, members of the Iroquois–Matilda Lions Club stopped by to lend their support to the ongoing preservation work happening just outside Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg.
The Lions presented a $2,075 donation to the Friends of GTR1008 — funds that will cover the group’s 2026 insurance costs and help volunteers continue restoring the exterior of the century-old locomotive.
“The Friends of GTR1008 is excited and grateful for this contribution from the Iroquois-Matilda Lions to help continue to refurbish this century old landmark next year,” said Friends President Jim Becksted. “It emphasizes the ongoing care the community shares about this display and highlights the cooperation and support between community groups.”
The Friends of GTR1008 continue to welcome volunteers, donors, and anyone who wants to take part in preserving this piece of local rail history. Those interested can contact the group at [email protected]
