Last night, Lamoureux Park was alive with the sound of music and the tantalizing aroma of BBQ as the Crash Test Dummies headlined an unforgettable concert as part of the Ribfest celebrations. The air was electric, the ribs were smoky, and the vibe was nothing short of spectacular.

As the sun began to set over the picturesque St. Lawrence River, families, friends, and music lovers gathered in droves, eager to experience the magic of live music once again. The anticipation was palpable, and the park was buzzing with excitement. Children laughed and played, couples strolled hand-in-hand, and groups of friends found their perfect spot on the grass, ready for a night to remember.

Canada Day in the City of Cornwall

The evening kicked off with a bang as local bands took the stage, warming up the crowd with their energetic performances. The diversity of talent on display was impressive, setting the tone for what was to come. Each act brought something unique, showcasing the rich tapestry of musical talent that our community has to offer.

Worth of mention is the “Celtic Kitchen Party,” who played right before the main act. They entertained both young and old with Celtic classics such as “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” The band’s lively performance, complete with fiddles and foot-stomping rhythms, was a perfect tribute to the community’s Celtic heritage. Their spirited tunes and infectious energy had everyone clapping, dancing, and singing along, making it clear that Celtic blood runs deep in this community.

As the sky darkened and the stage lights began to shine, the moment everyone had been waiting for finally arrived. The Crash Test Dummies, one of Canada’s most beloved bands, took the stage to thunderous applause. Frontman Brad Roberts, with his distinctive baritone voice, greeted the crowd with a warm smile and a heartfelt “Hello, Cornwall!”

Throughout the night, the band played a mix of their greatest hits and some newer tracks, creating a perfect blend of nostalgia and fresh energy. Songs like “Superman’s Song” and “Afternoons & Coffeespoons” had the crowd singing along, while newer tracks showcased the band’s continued evolution and creativity. The musicianship was top-notch, with each member bringing their A-game, creating a sound that was both rich and dynamic.

The crowd’s energy was infectious, and it was clear that everyone was having a fantastic time. From the die-hard fans who knew every lyric to the newcomers experiencing the band for the first time, there was a sense of unity and joy that permeated the air. The atmosphere was one of celebration, not just of great music, but of community and togetherness.

Ending with their iconic hit “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm,” the band transported the audience back to the ‘90s, a decade that many fondly remember as the golden age of alternative rock. The nostalgic vibes were strong, and it was clear that the Crash Test Dummies still had the ability to connect deeply with their fans, both old and new.

The concert was not just a highlight of Ribfest, but a highlight of the summer. It was a night that reminded us all of the power of live music to bring people together.

As people slowly made their way out of the park, there was a sense of satisfaction and happiness that lingered in the air. Conversations buzzed with excitement, recounting favorite moments and already planning for next year’s Ribfest.

Last night’s concert was more than just a performance; it was a celebration of community, music, and the simple pleasures of life. Lamoureux Park once again proved to be the perfect backdrop for such an event, and the Crash Test Dummies reminded us all why they remain a beloved staple in the world of music. Here’s to more nights like this, where the ribs are delicious, the music is transcendent, and the memories are unforgettable.
