Hi gang! Welcome to another instalment of Eats & Deets! I’m Stacey Case, also known as the Pizza Freak. I’m going to fill you in on a great pizzeria today, in the town of Morrisburg.
Pizza Castle is in the strip mall in there. They’ve been in the same location for over twenty years. Tucked away down a lane in the middle of the mall, it’s a nice bright shop. The owner, Bobby, was amused by me when I told him who I was, and what I do. I first met him a couple of summers ago. I had heard that he did cheese on top like in Cornwall. He told me that he grew up eating Cornwall Style Pizza, so that’s how me makes it.
I had seen a post online about a pizza they were making called with ravioli on it. I have a tattoo artist friend named Angel Ravioli, so I sent the post to her. She wrote back Aaaagggh I need that! Ha. I went and got one for myself. No sharesies. Sorry Angel!
I didn’t get the pizza for the ravioli, I got it because I noticed a topping I had never seen listed on a pizza before. Cream cheese. Straight up cream cheese on a pizza. This I had to see. I called in the order to Bobby, and went and picked it up. Bobby was happy to see me, and after chatting, I had to ask him about the cream cheese. He uses a piping bag full of softened cream cheese, and then pipes small dots onto baking trays, and puts them in the freezer. When they’re frozen he dumps them into a container. Ready to sprinkle cream cheese! What a genius idea! (I called them today for a quick update and his niece said the cream cheese was her idea lol. I called her the genius. Sorry Bobby).
Bobby’s tomato sauce is delicious. Thick, rich and tasty as heck. The raviolis were a little plain, not homemade, but that’s okay. I was focused on the cream cheese. Did you know cream cheese dots brown in the oven? And when they break open and mix with the tomato sauce from the pizza in your mouth…it’s really something special. It’s a really unique innovation, and they’re now using it on other Specialty Pizzas like their Jalapeño Poppers one, or the Maui Wowie. Me, I’d just get a pepperoni and pay a little extra for the cream cheese dots as an extra topping. It’s that good. It turns the flavour into a creamy rose sauce, which is amazing. Cream cheese dots on Pizza Castle pizza in Morrisburg: 10/10.
